Ready for Golf

Get Golf Ready

In preparing for your round of golf it would be ideal if you had a chance to stretch for a few minutes, hit some balls and then go to the first tee. You would be loose, comfortable, and ready to go. Realistically, you more than likely get to the course a little rushed from leaving work early, throw your golf shoes on and go. From the time you go from your car to the tee, if you could take 3 minutes to do three things, your round of golf would start out so much better.

  1. Stretch your hamstrings. Place your right heel on the back of the cart, keep back straight and lean forward at the waist, keeping your chest up – hold 30 seconds, then reverse and do the left side.
  2. Stretch your hips – sitting, cross your right ankle onto your left thigh and hold the right ankle stable with your left hand. Place your right hand on the outside of your right knee and pull the right knee across your body towards your left shoulder – hold 30 seconds; then reverse and do the other hip.
  3. Stand at address, taking 15-20 deliberate full swings. Then reverse your grip on the club and take 15-20 swings from the opposite side.

Performing these three stretches consistently before each round will better prepare you for a smoother, fluid swing. With hamstrings and hips loose, there will be less stress placed on the lower back and your body will be ready for golf.
